Sustaining Live Performance
Live Performance Australia Sustainability Commitment Statement

The Australian economy is currently transitioning towards a more sustainable future. This is a challenging but inspiring time for all industries – and the live performance industry is no exception.

Managing our businesses in a more environmentally sustainable way is not just an ethical imperative – it also makes good business sense. Future legislative and funding requirements will be increasingly linked to environmental outcomes, so organisations that adapt now will be well placed for future compliance. And operating efficiencies adopted for environmental purposes can also deliver significant running cost savings.

To assist members in making this transition towards a more sustainable future, LPA has established the ‘Greener Live Performances Project’. The Project will focus on a cluster group of up to twenty Queensland based organisations. Each organisation will undertake an eco-efficiency review and improvement process, with the results used to inform case studies, online resources and training for all LPA members.

The project is the first step towards achieving wide-spread industry reform.

The strategic objectives of the project include:

(a) Harness the power of the live performance industry to be a catalyst for change within the wider community

(b) Foster long term commitment to sustainability in live performance businesses

(c) Provide a platform for government and industry to work together to develop sustainability criteria for integration into future funding arrangements

The ‘Greener Live Performances Project’ will ultimately provide you with the tools and support you need to:

(a) Understand the environmental impacts of your organisation; and

(b) Develop a Sustainability Action Plan that is flexible, meaningful and helps you take effective action.

As our economy transitions, the use of available resources, the direction of investments, and the orientation of technological development will need to become consistent with future as well as present needs.

This challenge calls for vision, innovation and creative thinking – attributes which have always driven the live performance industry.

We will enhance our ability to support you by establishing relationships with those in Australia and overseas who are also travelling on this journey. By sharing responses to our mutual challenges, we can make more informed choices that bring benefits to your operations faster.

LPA is proud to take a leadership role on sustainability and looks forward to assisting Members to move with knowledge and integrity towards a sustainable future.
